God's Response to Elijah and New Commissions

19
Chapter 19
10 And he said, "I have been zealous, I have been zealous for the LORD God of hosts, for the sons of Israel have abandoned your covenant; they have torn down your altars, and they have killed your prophets with the sword, and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it." 11 And he said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind was breaking mountains and shattering rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake, fire; but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire, a sound of sheer silence. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him, and it said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 14 And he said, "I have been zealous; I am zealous for the LORD God of hosts, for the sons of Israel have abandoned your covenant; they have torn down your altars, and they have killed your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it." 15 And the LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus, and when you arrive, you will anoint Hazael king over Aram." 16 And you shall anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel, and Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-Mahalalel you shall anoint as prophet in your place. 17 And it will happen that whoever escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. 18 And I will leave in Israel seven thousand, every knee that did not bow to Baal and every mouth that did not kiss him.
